YIA Goals
Develop team spirit, character, leadership skills, and passion for the community by volunteering and caring for the underserved
Youth are called to serve the underprivileged while discovering new aspects of their identity and gaining new skill sets. Advisors and youth counselors facilitate this growth by evaluating students based on their performance and attitude. In the past 8 years, we have had over 600 middle and high school students volunteer with nearly 70 different community service organizations with the help of 65 college interns. Students can also apply for the Presidential Volunteer Service Award with the community service hours they earn in YIA.
What YIA students are saying
“All of these years attending YIA had a serious impact on me: they helped me build a better version of myself, improved my abilities, and have also helped me become more confident to face any situation”
12th Grade, Beckman High School
“With YIA, I had counselors and student leaders to look up to and learn from. I was able to step out of my comfort zone. As a student leader, it’s so rewarding to lead groups and be a role model for them.”
11th Grade, Woodbridge High School
“Working with my counselors has inspired a drive within me to help others, and has greatly raised the bar for how I perceive community service. What inspired me the most however, is how much they have shown to truly care for me and my well-being.”
11th Grade, Woodbridge High School
“YIA has definitely taught me how to become a better leader. I started off being shy and uncomfortable in talking to people when I was a new student. Through the experiences of leading many groups of students and useful training, I was able to grow immensely in my leadership skills.”
11th Grade, Irvine High School
